If you wish to replace one or more missing teeth or have a more stable foundation for dentures, dental implants can be the best long-term solution to restore a smile that looks and feels natural. At Mark J. Escoto, DDS in Las Vegas, NV 89117, we offer modern dental implants that restore your oral functions and complete your smile.
Why Choose Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a solid solution for replacing missing or damaged teeth. They can be used to replace a single missing tooth or several teeth, and the implant can last a lifetime with good care. The implants firmly support your prosthetic teeth, so they feel just like natural teeth, and you are free to eat your favorite foods without any hurdles.
Dental implants also support the jawbone and facial structure, which help avoid premature aging of the face and improve your self-confidence. If you are considering an implant restoration, we will make sure you understand the process of achieving your new smile.
Who Can Get Dental Implants?
We can provide dental implants for most people over the age of eighteen who are missing one or more teeth. They have a high success rate for adults, including the elderly. To be a suitable candidate for dental implants, you should have healthy and disease-free gums. And your jawbone should be dense enough to support an implant. A bone graft procedure can be done if your jawbone does not have sufficient density. You may not be eligible for bone grafting or implant placement if you have certain medical conditions that affect healing.
The Dental Implant Procedure
Dental implant treatments at our office are completed in two phases: the surgical and prosthetic stages. The surgical stage involves the placement of the dental implant or implants in the jawbone. This is generally performed under local anesthesia. The prosthetic step consists in creating and fitting a natural-looking replacement tooth or teeth onto the implant.
After an implant is inserted in the jawbone, it should be left to heal for about four to six months. During this period, the implant fuses with the surrounding bone becoming firmly anchored in position. This process is called osseointegration.
The duration required for healing depends on whether the tooth implant is placed in the upper or lower arch and the jawbone quality. We can provide you with a temporary restoration during this healing phase, or you can continue to wear your existing dentures.
After the dental implants have fused efficiently, we will perform a second operation to fit extensions known as implants' abutments. Another two weeks is given for your gum to heal. Finally, we will take impressions of your mouth and implants and use them to make your permanent crown, bridge, or attachments for dentures.
