Veneers are effective and safe appliances to strengthen and straighten your teeth. As we age, our teeth can become discolored, misshapen, or develop gaps between the teeth. You should consider veneers if you are looking to fix a problem with your smile without resorting to standard teeth straightening techniques. The use of dental veneers can help correct various smile imperfections. At Mark J. Escoto, DDS in Las Vegas, NV 89117, we offer solid and long-lasting veneer restorations to help you regain your healthy, flawless smile.
What Are Veneers?
Veneers are thin transparent shells that are fastened to the front surface of your impaired tooth. They change your smile’s contour, size, color, and appearance. They are generally made of porcelain or a resin compound and are designed to imitate the surface of a tooth, so they will blend in seamlessly and complete your smile appearance. The porcelain veneers will not stain or change in color over time.
What Can Veneers Fix?
Dental veneers can help rectify several smile issues, including:
- Discoloration from certain medicines
- Invasive treatments or large fillings
- Worn-down teeth
- Bulges, uneven surfaces, or misaligned teeth
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Unappealing gaps
How Do Veneers Work?
You will typically need about three appointments at our office. First, Dr. Mark J. Escoto will take X-rays and impressions of your mouth to create a personalized treatment plan. You can discuss your treatment plan and make sure you achieve the desired results.
Next, the surface of your tooth will be prepared for veneer placement. We may use local anesthesia for this step to make you comfortable. After the top layers are removed, we will take an impression of your prepared tooth. These impressions will then be sent to our dental lab, where your veneers will be custom-fabricated to the precise specifications of your teeth.
It usually takes a couple of weeks for the veneer to be made. Meanwhile, we will place a temporary restoration to protect your smile. Once your veneers are ready, we will first make sure they fit onto the teeth. If necessary, we will trim it so it fits just right.
If you are satisfied with the fit, your tooth will be prepared by cleaning, polishing, and then etching to give the tooth a rough surface so the veneer remains securely in place. Then, the veneers are permanently bonded in position using dental cement. Any excess adhesive will be cleaned up, and you are ready with your new smile.
You will receive aftercare instructions for veneers. Efficient brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits and cleanings will assist in the life of your new veneers.
